The Riksdag voted in favour of the government's proposal on heated tobacco products. This involves introducing a ban on characteristic flavours and making it possible to regulate requirements for information texts and health warnings for these products through government regulations.

Heated tobacco products are not widely used in Sweden. Several of the members of parliament said in the debate that they had to google to understand what product they were supposed to be voting on. They were not very familiar with it.

– It is possible that today's political consensus is facilitated by the fact that these are products that have not really gained a foothold in the Swedish market yet. For once, we as legislators are one step ahead, said Karin Sundin (S), in the debate.

Tobacco products are heated to produce a vapor containing nicotine and other chemicals. They are then inhaled by users. Depending on their characteristics, the product can be smokeless or smokeless.

The Government, or the authority designated by the Government, shall issue regulations on which heated tobacco products are to be considered to have a characteristic flavour. The Government's proposal has been based on requirements from the EU.

Tobacco Facts has previously written about the MP's and SD's motions on the issue. All motions were rejected.
