The appropriations for 2020 have been halved compared to the appropriations in 2019 and 2018. In figures, this means almost 70 million kronor less for preventive work in the areas of alcohol, drugs, tobacco, doping and gambling. Andreas Axelson, Secretary General, Young Drug Prevention, Marita Isaksson, Chair, Svenska Live – Young Organizers Network, Sabina Kapetanovic, Lecturer in Child and Youth Studies, University of West Sweden and Anna Petersén, Lecturer in Social Work, Örebro University write in the debate article that a consequence of the reduced appropriations is that several planned preventive efforts are now being forced to be cancelled, which means that the time, expertise and tax money invested are being thrown down the drain.
Reduced funding for ANDTS work halts preventive efforts
The government has sharply cut funding for the preventive ANDTS work. Representatives from four organizations are now urging Minister of Social Affairs Hallengren in a debate article in Aftonbladet to reconsider the decision during the next budget process. Otherwise, there is a risk of major negative consequences in the future, both financial and human.
