A donation has made global collaboration possible for healthcare professionals working in oral health. One of the first areas of collaboration is tobacco and nicotine.
On June 4, an online symposium was organized under the title “Working Together to Stop Tobacco and Nicotine.” The symposium was preceded by the following description of what was to come:
“This online meeting will be divided into two parts: a global session (in English), followed by specific sessions tailored (in the respective languages) for professionals from each of the countries initially involved in this initiative. With more than 20 countries currently participating and the expectation to include 2-3 speakers per country in the webinar, more than fifty leading speakers are expected to participate directly.”
In all cases, in addition to analyzing the specific situation in each country, emphasis will be placed on the fundamental role that dental professionals play as strategic actors in prevention and interventions against tobacco and nicotine use. In addition, the crucial role of the dental team will be highlighted in achieving a more integrated and effective public health response.
The scientific committee of the “Working Together to Stop Tobacco and Nicotine” initiative consists of representatives of SEPA- Spanish Society of Periodontology and ENSP, European Network for Smoking and Tobacco Prevention.
