A Non Smoking Generations releases its tenth report on young people's attitudes towards tobacco. The organization describes an ongoing nicotine epidemic among Swedish schoolchildren. The organization believes that much more needs to be done. Adults must protect minors.
– Children have a statutory right to both knowledge and health! To meet this, extensive awareness-raising efforts are required, digital platforms must be free from tobacco industry advertising, and nicotine must not taste like or be sold cheaper than candy, says Helen Stjerna, Secretary General of A Non Smoking Generation.
Nine out of ten students are exposed to white snus and e-cigarettes in their everyday lives, the report shows. It is most common for peers to influence each other to try.
Minors are trading
Despite the 18-year age limit, many people buy snus themselves even though they are not of legal age. Eight out of ten minors say they buy white snus and e-cigarettes themselves without showing identification.
