The use of new nicotine products, such as vaping and white snus, has decreased. The proportion who use it has gone from 12 to 9 percent from 2022 to 2024 for 15-17 year olds. A decrease is also visible for 18-24 year olds, but it is smaller, from 17 to 16 percent.
However, usage continues to increase slightly for 25-29 year olds, from 8 to 9 percent.
Mette Lolk Hanak, Kræftens Bekæmpelse, believes that the decrease for young people is a result of measures such as increased prices and that the products are no longer as visible. To further reduce use, she wants to increase the price of white snus.
– Raising the price is the single most effective tool we have if we want fewer people to start and more to quit, says Mette Lolk Hanak, in a press release from the Swedish Cancer Society.
Footnote: The survey shows that the proportion of 15-17 year olds using any tobacco or nicotine product has decreased from 31 to 24 percent. This figure also includes traditional smoking.
