Hongying Daisy Dai, University of Nebraska, and her research colleagues have investigated the connection between the concentration of nicotine in e-cigarettes and the risk of developing an addiction.

In a cross-sectional study of adults over 18 years of age in the United States, researchers asked vapers to describe their use. They then examined the relationship between nicotine concentrations when they vape and the degree of addiction, as assessed by the individual. The researchers found a relationship between high nicotine concentrations in the vape and the degree to which they perceived themselves to be addicted. Both those who only vape and those who vape and smoke were included in the study.
