Brismar tells P3 Nyheter that she is convinced that in a few years there will be research that confirms a connection between diabetes and the increasing use of white snus.

There is previous research showing that the risk of type 2 diabetes increases for those who smoke and snuff brown snus. This is linked to the nicotine. White snus may contain even more nicotine, which suggests a similar connection.

"If you continue to use white snus for a long time, for many years, the risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease and probably certain forms of cancer also increases," says Kerstin Brismar, professor of diabetes research, to P3 News.

Fact: Research from Karolinska Institutet shows that between 2006 and 2021, the proportion of people under 40 affected by type 2 diabetes has almost doubled. It is mainly among people under 30, especially young women, that type 2 diabetes is increasing.
